A note about wedding planners

January 23rd, 2011 by Administrator

In these trying times everyone is on the budget. But the time doesn’t stand still. People still get married and life goes on. However, when budget is tight, certain luxuries are being eliminated. For some reason, couples think that hiring a wedding planner is a luxury. I beg to differ. If you had to ask me if you should hire a wedding planner even though the money is tight, my answer is a resounding YES! I know it’s an extra expense, but i strongly believe that your wedding day is not a day to experiment. And your nice aunt Beth who knows how to throw a good party does not make a wedding planner. Neither does a person who represents your venue. Those are venue coordinators. And although they make you believe that it’s an all inclusive deal and that you really don’t need anyone else, remember this: The venue coordinator works for the venue. Who then, works for you? Who will put your best interests first? I have worked on many weddings with and without coordinators. My conclusion is- Hire one, but hire a good one.Happy-go-lucky attitude is not appropriate here. This has to be a seasoned professional with many years experience and preferably someone who has already worked at the venue where your event is going to be. Your timeline has to be airtight. If there are any gaps in the scheduling, i would be worried. I personally like to know exactly what the wedding day is like for my clients. Starting with the time they wake up, and finishing with the time the last dance is over and i need to be there for dismantle. I normally don’t want to give any preference to any vendor that i work with, but i want to mention a very special planner that i have worked with many times and found her follow through on detail to be the most thorough and precise , and she is a pleasure to work with. I am talking about Lana Leykin, a wedding planner/owner of Miracle Events   (  If your wedding is larger than 50 guests, i seriously and strongly recommend that you get an event planner. It’s a shame when all the money and planning goes out of the window if  there’s no one looking after you to make sure that YOU are happy. I write this because i care. I care about my clients and of course about their events. Memories are precious. Can you really put a price on them?

The photo below is from one of the events that was planned by Miracle Events.  Flowers are by Supinere Floral Couture, of course ! A special thank you to the photographer extraordinaire Cliff Brunk who created the beautiful image below:

Congratulations Alina and Jim!

This  past weekend I had a pleasure to design wedding flowers for a super fun and adorable couple- Alina and Jim! Alina loves purple. In fact, i don’t think I ever had seen her wear anything that didn’t include at least a touch of her favorite color. So of course, the wedding flowers had to be purple! As a floral designer you need to be flexible and creative. And this weekend is when i needed to be both. Because of the recent cold snap, the purple hydrangeas that i needed for the design were simply not available, and flying them in from New Zealand was not an option. I had individually died every stem of the hydrangea used for this wedding so that it looks natural, just like in Nature. ( solid puple hydrangeas don’t exist). The result is a lush luxurious centerpiece , exactly like i intended. Jim loves all kinds of cool additions, so for him i did the inside lighting and LED votives.  This was a fun, if not a traditional wedding. I wish Alina and Jim a lifetime of happiness and laughter!

Floral design is my labor of love. If you ever visit a florist and get a feeling that they are on the clock, get out fast and find one who will spend time with you, understanding your style, budget and vision and will do whatever is necessary to make that vision come to life.  Flowers are my passion and making a bride and groom happy on their wedding day is my priority number one.
